Max Weiner is a bassist and composer originally from Great Barrington, Massachusetts. He exhibited interests in music from an early age, often drumming along to music being played in the house. At age 8, he started to find his voice on different instruments including piano, bass, saxophone, guitar, and drums, eventually settling on acoustic bass as his primary.
Throughout junior high, Max practiced passionately and developed leadership and writing skills by forming his own bands. By the time he reached Monument Mountain Regional High School, he had developed a deep interest in jazz and funk fusion, and was quickly noticed by the older musicians in the music program, which led to his first big project, The Interlopers Music. For the next two years, Max would complete many local gigs, two tours, one album, and various singles with the now Boston-based group.
He left the band to pursue a degree in jazz performance at Oberlin Conservatory under the pedagogy of Peter Dominguez, Billy Hart, Jamey Haddad, Paul Samuels, Dan Wall, Eddie Henderson, and Jay Ashby. He has since performed at venues such as the Kennedy Center Millenium Stage (DC), The Bitter End (NY), The Capitol Theater (NY), Maureen’s Jazz Cellar (NY), The Mahaiwe Theater (MA), The Dreamaway Lodge (MA), Nighttown (OH), and BLU Jazz+ (OH), and has performed internationally in South Africa and India. He has shared the stage with musicians such as Billy Hart, Sullivan Fortner, Dan Wilson, Greg Abate, Abraham Laboriel, Andre Mehmari, Billy Drewes, Dominick Farinacci, Bobby Selvaggio, and Theron Brown. Since graduating in May 2018, Max now resides in Akron, Ohio.
