Infinite Soul Fronted by the talents of vocalists Darla Doll & Timi Funk, join us as Akron's own neo "rock-n-soul" group blends old school funk & classic rock with new school hip-hop and R&B for a sound all their own in BLU debut!

Saturday, February 25

Darla Doll is a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan and is one of two members to front Infinite Soul Band. Her primary music is soul and R&B but she likes all genres of music. “It wasn’t something I ever thought about. It just comes naturally to me,” Darla said. She grew up listening to everything from R&B to blues to hip hop and as a teenager she loved Guy, Bobby Brown, Shirley Brown, MC Hammer and many others.

Darla’s musical icon is Tina Turner but she’s been known to sing Mary J. Blige songs in the shower. She would love to perform with Tina sometime just to “feel the energy!” She describes her own music as “uplifting, heartfelt, soulful and real.” She writes her own songs on a variety of themes. “Music is medicine to my soul – whatever the mood, there is something for the occasion.”

Infinite Soul shows usually start with some classic R&B then a bit of funk followed by bluesy rock with a few slow jams and ballads thrown in. “We like to mix it up – give you a bit of every genre while mainly keeping it upbeat and slipping in a few slow songs,” Darla said.

“If I couldn’t perform I would be lost – it makes me feel totally alive and not too much of anything else matters right at that point and time,” Darla said.

Timi Funk is a native of Akron, Ohio and is co-founder of Infinite Soul. Timi has been performing since she was three and remembers singing in a beauty pageant when she was five or six. “I grew up listening to Michael Jackson and Madonna but my parents had house parties and played music from funk bands of the 70s and 80s and I was hooked!” she says. “As a teenager, I got into 90s grunge/pop, especially Nirvana, Beck, Blind Melon and No Doubt and threw in some Erykah Badu, Lauren Hill, Lil’ Kim and Mary J. Blige.”

Timi said, “We [Doll & Funk] liked providing a wide variety of music for our audiences and we were both inspired by so many genres – soul, blues, rock – we just wanted to give people what they wanted – a really inclusive experience!”

Timi describes the band’s sound as “authentic, mature, seductive, soulful and refreshing.” Infinite Soul can be just Timi and Darla or can expand to an additional eight musicians depending on the venue.

Timi’s ultimate career goal as a performer is to provide a better life for her family while inspiring people with her music. Timi writes her own songs mostly about life and love and her biggest break in the industry so far as been opening for Larry Graham of Graham Central Station and Sly and the Family Stone. She plans to be hearing her songs on the radio and touring the country or the world.

“Success is fulfilling your dreams while never giving up along the way,” Timi says. “Music is my best friend and without it I would be dead or insane!” “Performing makes me feel invincible!”
