BLU Jazz Jam Session Bring your horn and come be part of Akron's jazz history in the making! Featuring Jennifer James, Andrew Wegierski, Chandler Carpenter, Brian Randall, Miguel Torres.

Jam sessions have a long history in jazz and have played an integral role in the development of jazz musicians and styles. The BLU Jazz Jam is no exception, and is made for musicians and music lovers alike. Come hang, have a drink (if you’re of age), and experience this exciting forum for musical expression!
 
Bring your instrument, play through tunes, and enjoy the camaraderie of having a gathering place for the area’s finest jazz musicians (as well as the up-and-comers)!

About the Band

Jennifer James is a pianist and educator from Akron, Ohio. She recently graduated with a Bachelor of Jazz Studies from the University of Akron, studying under Rock Wehrmann and Jack Schantz. Jennifer performs regularly at public and private events. She has taught piano lessons at Loud and Clear Music School in Cuyahoga Falls for two years. Currently, she also holds the position of Host and Administrative Intern at BLU Jazz+.
 
Andrew Wegierski is a trombonist, bandleader composer, and teacher. He graduated from the University of Akron with degrees in Jazz Studies and Music Composition. Andrew currently leads and performs in the Danjo Jazz Orchestra based out of Kent, Ohio. His other performing groups include the NEO Jazz Orchestra, Skatch Anderssen Orchestra, and the Freedom Brass Band amongst many others.
 
Chandler Carpenter is a guitarist, composer, and educator based in Youngstown, Ohio. He holds a Bachelor of Jazz Studies from the University of Akron, studying with Jack Schantz, Chris Coles, and Dean Newton. He is currently pursuing his graduate degree in jazz performance from Youngstown State University. Chandler has worked with many local ensembles performing a wide variety of musical styles.
 
Brian Randall is a percussionist from the Akron area. He spent several years studying full-time at the University of Akron while in high school. Brian formally began his collegiate career at Cleveland State University studying Jazz Performance and is currently a sophomore. Brian teaches drum lessons at Guitar Center and currently is the drummer for First Congregational Church of Akron.
 
Miguel Torres is a bassist and teacher within the NEO area. He currently studies music at the University of Akron. Miguel has experience with many different styles of music, including jazz, funk, contemporary, and world music. He performs with the Redline wedding band and the Most Wanted Vibes music group. Miguel teaches bass lessons privately alongside subbing at the Western Reserve Music school in Hudson, Ohio.
