(AKRON, OH) – The month of April is nationally recognized as Jazz Appreciation Month (JAM), an annual event created to pay tribute to jazz as both a living and historic genre of music. In partnership with Tri-C JazzFest (who celebrates their 36th season this year), BLU Jazz+ will be hosting a very special event, “Tri-C JazzFest Day in Akron,” on Thursday, April 16th, 2015!
Several of Summit County’s high school and collegiate jazz programs will be participating in a series of daytime workshops and masterclasses at BLU Jazz+ lead by this season’s Tri-C JazzFest artists in residence, the Gerald Clayton Trio. On the BLU Jazz+ stage, students will have a chance to perform and sharpen their skills under the guidance of three-time Grammy® nominated pianist & composer, Gerald Clayton.
The day will culminate in two exciting live public performances: the renowned Berklee College of Music’s “Next Generation Jazz Ensemble,” under the direction of Grammy® award winning jazz drummer, composer, record producer, & educator – Terri Lyne Carrington, will take the stage at 7:30PM, followed by the Gerald Clayton Trio, featuring Kendrick Scott & Joe Sanders.
