The Tania Grubbs Quartet has been swinging regularly together for more than 6 years. Tania holds her degree from Youngstown State University, where she grew a firm foundation for the Classic American Songbook and continues to stay true – researching and always on the lookout for “treasured” tunes. Tania has been a featured vocalist with the Pittsburgh Symphony, Pittsburgh Jazz Orchestra, Florida Philharmonic Orchestra and the Boca Raton Pops Orchestra.
 
Backed by a stellar band whose collective credits include performances with the likes of Nat Adderley, Mose Allison, Terrance Blanchard, Kenny Burrell, Donald Byrd, Kurt Elling, Roger Humphries, Ramsey Lewis, Joe Lovano, Ellis Marsalis, Chris Potter, Diane Schur, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Ira Sullivan, Billy Taylor, Joe Williams, David “Fathead” Newman, James Moody, Jimmy Heath, Clark Terry, Benny Golson, Freddy Cole, Monty Alexander, Bill Watrous, Jay Ashby, Steve Davis, Paquito D’Rivera, Curtis Lundy, Wycliffe Gordon, Javon Jackson, and more – Tania’s band is world-class!

About Daniel May

Pianist Daniel May holds a Doctorate in Music Composition from Cornell University. Daniel relocated to Pittsburgh, Pa from Los Angeles where he worked as a composer for feature films, television and IMAX films. Daniel continues to work in the film industry remotely from his own, state of the art, Maywood Studio, located in Pittsburgh. Daniel has produced and recorded more than 50 CD projects with many notables in the jazz world. Daniel is also the producer of the album “Lost in the Stars” featuring the Tania Grubbs Quartet.
 
Tania and Daniel are presently the co-music directors of the Fairmont Pittsburgh Hotel located in the heart of downtown where they organize a 4 night per week music series.
 


 

About Jeff Grubbs

Jeff Grubbs is without a doubt the perfect fit for the quartet. Jeff is first and foremost Tania’s husband, and then on top of that, an extraordinary musician who has the unique ability to bridge both classical and jazz. A native of Cleveland, Ohio Jeff received his musical training from Youngstown State University, The Cleveland Institute of Music and the University of Southern California. Jeff is a seasoned veteran of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra as well as a well sought after bassist in the jazz realm. Jeff has played and or recorded with such notables as Nat Adderley, Mose Allison, Terrance Blanchard, Kenny Burrell, Donald Byrd, Kurt Elling, Roger Humphries, Ramsey Lewis, Joe Lovano, Ellis Marsalis, Chris Potter, Diane Schur, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Ira Sullivan, Billy Taylor and Joe Williams.
 


 

About Thomas Wendt

A professional drummer since the age of 14. Thomas Wendt who studied under the great master drummers Roger Humphries, Joe Harris and Kenny Washington to this day remains one of the most sought out drummers throughout Pittsburgh and beyond. Tom is the drummer for the Pittsburgh Jazz Orchestra and has worked with such notables as Joe Negri, Sean Jones, David “Fathead” Newman, Donald Byrd, James Moody, Jimmy Heath, Clark Terry, Benny Golson, Freddy Cole, Monty Alexander, Bill Watrous, Jay Ashby, Steve Davis, Gene Ludwig, Maureen Budway, Sandy Staley, Paquito D’Rivera, Curtis Lundy, Wycliffe Gordon, Javon Jackson.
