Houston Person is jazz’ working class hero, a true man of the people. Person who was born in Newberry, South Carolina in 1934, and first received national attention with a series of soulful albums recorded for the Prestige label back in the ’60s. In 1968, he began a sympathetic and successful musical partnership with the great Etta Jones that lasted over 30 years.
In addition to his work with Jones, Mr. Person has recorded with Charles Brown, Bill Charlap, Charles Earland, Lena Horne, Lou Rawls, Horace Silver, Dakota Staton, Billy Butler, Joey DeFrancesco, Grant Green, and many others.
A passionate tenor saxophonist, alternately tough and tender, Person is today’s leading instrumentalist in the tradition Gene Ammons and Stanley Turrentine made so popular during their careers.
Join us as this jazz icon puts a swingin’ & soulful instrumental take on the Sinatra songbook! Featuring Joe Hunter, Peter Dominguez, Glenn Davis.
