Maria Jacobs Accomplished jazz and R&B vocalist showcases her latest studio album, "Here Comes Winter," featuring Bob Fraser, Brian Wildman, Dan Maier, & Mark Gonder

Friday, April 17

Vocal jazz and R&B sensation, Maria Jacobs, makes her BLU debut by showcasing material from her fifth album release, “Here Comes Winter.” Released in late 2014, “Here Comes Winter” features several well-placed original songs, three renditions from Joni Mitchell’s songbook, Jacobs’ take on Brian Wilson’s classic, “In My Room,” and two jazz standards.

“Whether making high notes sound effortless, displaying quiet passion, or cutting loose like the best Broadway singer (one could imagine her ‘Fall In Love Again’ being in a show), she (Jacobs) is quite impressive,” notes famous jazz critic & author, Scott Yanow.

You may have heard Maria’s new single, “Pour Me A Cup of Yesterday,” on Cleveland’s 107.3 the WAVE (or on countless other stations across the country). Don’t miss your chance to hear her perform LIVE right here at our beautiful new venue in Downtown Akron!

About Maria Jacobs

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, this former traffic reporter and disc jockey lived in Los Angeles for eleven years and sang prestigious venues such as The Langham Huntington (formerly the Ritz Carlton,) The Four Seasons in Westlake Village, Chaya of Beverly Hills, and The Torrance Civic Center to name a few. She has released five albums: “No Frills,” “Free As A Dove,” “Chasing Dreams,” “Art of the Duo,” and “Here Comes Winter.”

When Maria is not opening for acts like jazz trumpeter/songwriter Chuck Mangione (The Coach House, San Juan Capistrano) or jazz singer/songwriter Bob Dorough (Columbus, Ohio), she is writing and recording jazz and R&B albums, and working with some of the finest musicians in the business.

For her third album, Chasing Dreams, Maria recorded with bassist Alphonso Johnson and drummer Ndugu Chancler. Chasing Dreams received wonderful reviews from jazz critic Scott Yanow and Singer Magazine, just two of many. On her second album, Free As A Dove, eight of nine of the R&B/Pop selections were original songs composed by Maria. Maria is also no stranger to Gospel music, performing regularly and recording with Lafayette Carthon and FAITH, in her native Cleveland, Ohio.

With a solo jazz career in full swing, Maria still wanted to be true to her R&B heart. Following the release of her album Free As A Dove, Maria returned to Cleveland and co-founded the band 4Get The Girl, a diverse contemporary groove ensemble offering their own special blend of R&B, Jazz, and Soul Inspired Pop. Maria Jacobs and 4Get The Girl plays in historic Cleveland venues including Playhouse Square. They will release their first original music album in 2015.

Her fourth album, Art of the Duo, is an all jazz album which received compelling, national reviews from the likes of Scott Yanow, Bobby Jackson, All About Jazz, and Amazon.com, among others. But Maria did not wait long to produce a follow-up album the very next year. She wrote half the music for Here Comes Winter, coming out in the Fall of 2014. A jazz album, Here Comes Winter includes pop and folk songs from the likes of Joni Mitchell and the Beach Boys, placed well in a jazz setting.

Maria performs in New York, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio. Venues include Playhouse Square, and The House of Blues in Cleveland; The Torrance Civic Center and B.B. Kings in LA, and the Southern Theater in Columbus, Ohio with Byron Stripling and The Columbus Jazz Orchestra. Her music is heard on radio stations across the country and in venues throughout the UK, a few of which include Cleveland’s own, 107.3 The WAVE.
