Huntertones Brooklyn-based soul / jazz / hip-hop band (formerly DW6) returns to Ohio!

Thursday, December 4

Huntertones (formerly Dan White Sextet – DW6) formed right here in Ohio on the campus of the Ohio State University in 2010 but now calls Brooklyn, NY home.

An eclectic mix of soul, jazz, rock, R&B, and hip-hop, Huntertones bring a horn-laiden, groove-heavy originality to American pop music as well as their own compositions.

Join us in welcoming Huntertones back to Ohio for what Columbus Alive calls “a band bent on crossing musical boundaries” with “new arrangements that reimagine the source material so radically that they scan as originals.”

Featuring Dan White (saxophones), Jon Lampley (trumpet/sousaphone), Chris Ott (trombone/beatbox), Theron Brown (piano/keyboard), Josh Hill (guitar), John Hubbell (drums), Jeff Bass (bass).

Biography

Huntertones (formerly Dan White Sextet – DW6) is a band that plays real music. Soul, Jazz, Rock, R&B, and Hip-Hop, are all styles they blend together to create fresh, honest and feel good music.

The group began in 2010 when Jon Lampley, Chris Ott, John Hubbell and Dan White met at The Ohio State University. What started as a group of students getting together to play standard arrangements developed into a six-piece band driven to write original compositions, and craft inventive interpretations of American pop music.

The founders of the the group have garnered an eclectic musical background. White has received awards from Downbeat magazine for composition as well as solos. He also played saxophone in the Disneyland All-American College Band with Ott, who has earned accolades for his trombone playing and his arrangements for small instrumental and vocal ensembles. Lampley comes from the gospel music tradition, and is the touring trumpet/sousaphone player for the platinum selling rock band, O.A.R.

Rather than trying to adhere to today’s constantly changing pop culture climate, Huntertones strives to define their own path: to create genuine, original music that is inspired by the voices of the past and the soundtrack of the present; the music for life in the next ten minutes as well as in ten years.
