The Paulo Costa Trio is the culmination of three Brazilian friends that inspire audiences with their passion for Brazilian music. Lead singer & guitarist, Paulo Costa, trombonist Felipe Brito, and percussionist Davi Lira, bring together the energetic and rhythmically unique styles of bossa nova, samba, forró, maracatu, baião, and frevo.

Paulo Costa

Having played the acoustic guitar since age of 15, Paulo performs several Brazilian rhythms like samba, bossa nova, forró, maracatu, baião among others. He also composes music and has participated in various music festivals & competitions in Brazil, winning some of them. In addition to Brazil, he has performed with bands in London, Athens and Oslo, always playing Brazilian music with a great acceptance of the public.
 
Living in Cleveland since 2016, Paulo founded the Paulo Costa Trio with Felipe and Davi and perform in cafes and clubs around Northeast Ohio.
 


 

Felipe Brito

The fiery enthusiasm and relentless excellence of Felipe Brito’s musical skill is exhibited in every performance.
 
Presently studying under Principal Trombonist of the Cleveland Orchestra, Massimo La Rosa, Felipe is the Principal Trombonist for the Cleveland Opera Theater Orchestra and Substitute Trombone for the Canton Symphony Orchestra.
 
At 28 years old, Felipe’s performances have been honored with several prestigious awards, such as, the Burnham International Music Award (2015), and finalist of the Latin American Music Recording Competition (2015).
 
At Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music (JSOM), Felipe was a finalist in the 2014 IU Brass Concerto Competition, and was awarded the highly coveted Anthony & Olimpio Barbera Scholarship and an Artistic Excellence Fellowship for three consecutive years during his Master’s degree.
 
A testament to his passion, skill, and versatility, Felipe has collaborated with a number of national and international artists and bands including Branford Marsalis, Nils Landgren, Ernie Krivda, Kenny Davis, Jamey Haddad, Raul de Souza, Tito Rojas, Joe Bataan, Zé da Velha, Silvério Pontes, Vittor Santos, Paulo Dias, Sandália de Prata, and The Liberation Music Collective, which album was submitted for GRAMMY consideration.
 


 

Davi Martinelli de Lira

Originally from São Paulo, Brazil, Davi just finished his Master´s degree in Music Performance (Percussion) at Cleveland State University, studying with Tom Freer.
 
Previously, Davi was the principal percussionist/assistant timpanist of the São Pedro Theater Orchestra. Asides being a founder member of Paulo Costa Trio, Davi also works as a Percussion Instructor with the Contemporary Youth Orchestra, and teaches private Timpani, Percussion and Drum Set lessons. As an extra percussionist, he has performed with the Canton Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Philharmonic, Cleveland Winds, Santos Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of USP, and UNICAMP Symphony Orchestra.
 
Davi has participated on numerous music festivals around the world, including Aspen Music Festival (Aspen/USA), YOA Caribbean Tour, YOA Pan American Tour (Canada), and NOI National Orchestra and Institute Festival (Maryland/USA).
