The Kent State Jazz Orchestra is KSU’s premiere Big Band. One of several jazz groups at Kent State University, the Jazz Orchestra focuses on traditional and new Big Band music. The Kent State University Jazz Studies Program fosters a “real world” atmosphere, promoting the development of fundamental skills in jazz.
Through the school’s Jazz Minor curriculum and ensemble performance, students are provided the opportunity to improve individual musicianship, create a personal voice, learn from and be inspired by the rich history, understand the evolutionary process and modern trends of jazz, while becoming musical leaders and positive contributors to the Kent State University experience.
Join us as we continue our BLU Jazz+ Student All-Stars Concert Series by featuring the Kent State University Jazz Orchestra! Half the proceeds from this event go back to the Kent State University music department, so bring your friends and family out and show your support for this awesome local music program.
Be sure to stick around afterwards as the Director of the Kent State University Jazz Studies Department, saxophonist Bobby Selvaggio, leads his Grass Roots Movement group – featuring Kip Reed, Anthony Taddeo, and Noah Gershwin!
